containing not more than 300 words.
The main text should start on a separate page and
section sub-headings should be typed on a separate
line without indentations.
References
References must be numbered consecutively as they
are cited. The style of references should be in the
Vancouver style. The reference list should be on a
separate sheet. List all authors when there are six or
fewer; when there are seven or more, list the first
three, then “et al.” The followings are sample
references:
Citing a book
1. Getzen TE. Health economics: funda- mentals

Citing a journal article

Numbered references to personal communications,
unpublished data, and manuscripts either
“in preparation” or “submitted for publication” are
unacceptable. If essential, such material may be
incorporated in the appropriate place in the text.
Illustrations
The back of each figure should include the sequence
number, and the name of the author. Legends for
illustrations should be on a separate sheet. Symbols,
lettering, and numbering should be clear. Figures
should be professionally designed.
Tables
Tables should be submitted on separate sheets,
numbered and their position indicated in the text (e.g.
Table 1). Each table should have a short, selfexplanatory
title. Vertical rules should not be used
to separate columns.
Copyright
An acknowledgment of receipt will be sent by the
journal. Once a manuscript is accepted, it becomes
the copyright of the journal. The submitted meterials
are not returned.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
These guidelines are in accordance with the
“Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to
Biomedical Journals”

Journal of Medical Education welcomes original
contributions from all parts of the world, provided
they have not been previously published in English.
For Iranian contributors manuscripts can be submitted
in Farsi. However, the journal reserves the right to
make amendments to the translated materials which
may include abridgement of the text.
Submission of manuscripts
Four copies of manuscripts, and if possible a floppy
diskette, should be submitted to The Editor, Medical
Education Journal of Iran, Educational Development
Center Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical
Sciences and Health Services, Tabnak Street, Evin,
19395 Tehran-Iran;

A covering letter signed by all authors should
identify the person (with the address and telephone
number) responsible for negotiations concerning the
manuscript. Manuscripts and diskettes will not be
returned.
The journal welcomes original articles (not
exceeding 4000 words), short reports (not exceeding
2000 words), review articles, and letters. All
manuscripts will be peer reviewed.
All manuscripts are accepted with the condition
that they could be subject to editorial amendments
as deemed necessary
All admissions should be typed on A4 paper on
one side only, double-spaced with margins of at least
2.5 cm. All pages must be numbered. The name,
address, fax, email and telephone numbers of the
corresponding author must be included in the
covering letter and shown on the title page of the
manuscripts.
The title page should give both a descriptive title
and a short title, the name(s) of the author(s), and a
short qualifications and affiliations for each author.
The abstract should be provided on a separate
page and should repeat the title. The abstract should
consist of five paragraphs, labeled Background,
