 The facilities available at the Department of Parasitology of the SBMU  School of Medicine are as follows:

1-The Lab: There are 13 specialized labs and 2 general labs along with 3 classrooms used for graduate students including:

A-The protozoa-logy section which is chaired by Professor Haghighi. There are the three following labs there as follows:

  1. The specialized and research lab for studying blood and tissue protozoa, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of medicine, and is run by Professor Shahabi;
  2. The specialized and research lab for studying reproductive and digestive system protozoa, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine and is run by Professor Haghighi;
  3. The specialized and research lab for cryo-preservation and cell bank, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Sayyed Tabaie;

B-The Helminthology Section which is chaired by Professor S. Rohani with the following labs rendering services:

  1. The specialized and research lab for studying ring worms (nematodes or round worms), located located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Khazan;
  2. The specialized and research lab for studying tapeworms (Cestoda), located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Rohani;
  3. The specialized and research lab for studying flatworms (trematoda), located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Khazan;
  4. The specialized and research lab for malacology, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Tahvildari;

C- The Mycology Section, which is chaired by Professor Ghajari, and its specialized and research lab is located at the 1st Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine;

D- The Entomology Section, which is chaired by Professor Moien Vaziri, and is located at the 1st Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine; 

E- The Specialized & General Labs of the Department:

  1. The specialized and research lab of molecular parasitology, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Haghighi;
  2. The specialized and research lab of immune-parasitology, located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine, and is run by Professor Tahvildari;
  3. Two general-practical labs used by the students of PhD General in Medicine and Pharmacy, and a classroom used by the graduate students (MSCs & PhDs) both on the 1st Floor of the SBMU School of Medicine; they are run by Professor Sayyed Tabaie;
  4. The general-practical lab used by the graduate students (MSCs & PhDs) located at the 1st Floorof the SBMU School of Medicine, and run by Professor Sayyed Tabaie;
  5. An animal room, and a specialized and research allocated to studying lab animals located at the 6th Floor of the SBMU Scool of Medicine and run by Professor Tahvildari.   

The Department of Parasitology Research Lines

The research lines and priorities of the Department of Parasitology of the SBMU School of Medicine may be grouped as follows:

  1. Protozoas, including molecular-parasitological, serologic evaluations, their culture, identification and differentiation, herbal plants);
  2. Fasciola including molecular, immunological, and diagnostic evaluations;
  3. Malaria, including diagnostic, serologic, parasitological, and molecular evaluations;
  4. Entamoeba, including their differentiation, diagnostic, serologic, parasitological, and molecular evaluations, and the vaccines;
  5. Leishmaniases, including their differentiation, diagnostic, serologic, parasitological, and molecular evaluations, and the vaccines;
  6. Toxo-plasma, including their genetic variety, diagnostic, immunological, parasitological, and molecular evaluations;
  7. Intestinal coccidian, including their diagnostic and molecular evaluations;
  8. Giardia lamblia, including genetic variety, diagnostic, parasitological, and molecular investigations;
  9. Trichomonas, including genetic variety, diagnostic, parasitological, and molecular investigations;
  10. Balantida, including their diagnostic and parasitological investigations;
  11. Hidatidoses, including their immunological and molecular investigations;
  12. Plasmodium, including the vaccines, genetic variety, and molecular investigations;
  13. Fungi, including their serologic, biochemical, and molecular investigtions;
  14. Cryptosporidium, including their genetic variety;
  15. Vectors, including their types and variety;
  16. Worms, including their diagnostic, serologic, and parasitological investigations
